BIP Animation Format
Motion Capture in .BIP for Autodesk 3ds Max Biped
Motion Capture 3D Character Animation provided in biped .BIP file format. All animations use standard Biped bone names on our MotusMan_V55 biped and are pose‑matched for seamless blending.
Why choose BIP?
- Native to 3ds Max Character Studio Biped — load .BIP directly on a Biped rig for fast results.
- Clean loops & transitions — all idles and locomotions are pose‑matched for seamless motion trees.
- Production‑ready — detailed capture of starts, stops, turns, and state changes for realistic gameplay and cinematics.
What’s included
- .BIP files using standard Biped bone names.
- Animations authored on MotusMan_V55 Biped.
- Carefully pose‑matched idles and transitions for clean blends.
- Detailed, hand‑edited transitions to and from locomotions.

Compatibility
- Designed for: Autodesk 3ds Max (Character Studio Biped).
- Other DCC apps: .BIP is proprietary to 3ds Max. For Blender, Maya, etc., retarget in 3ds Max and export FBX for downstream use.
- Game Engines: Import the retargeted FBX into Unreal, Unity, and others.
Tip: Keep units consistent and verify frame rate before exporting to FBX.
Quick‑Start · Load a .BIP in 3ds Max
- Create a Biped (Create ▶ Systems ▶ Biped).
- Select any Biped bone, open the Motion panel.
- In the Biped rollout, click Load File (folder icon), choose a
.BIP. - Enable Figure Mode if needed to adjust proportions, then exit and reload the motion.
- Scrub the timeline to preview. Save a new
.BIPif you make edits.
For batch use, consider MaxScripts that load multiple BIPs or convert FBX to Biped.
Export to FBX (optional)
To use the motion outside of 3ds Max, retarget onto your target rig, then export to FBX:
- Skin your character to Biped or transfer animation to a bones rig.
- File ▶ Export ▶ FBX. In FBX options, include animation and bake.
- Import the FBX into Unreal/Unity or another DCC.

Directly, no — BIP is a 3ds Max Biped format. Load in 3ds Max, retarget to your rig, then export FBX for other apps.
Do these animations loop cleanly?
Yes. Idles and locomotions are pose‑matched; transitions are hand‑edited for clean state changes.
What skeleton are these authored on?
MotusMan_V55 Biped with standard Biped bone names.
Can I retarget .BIP to my custom rig?
Yes, inside 3ds Max using Biped tools or third‑party scripts; then export to FBX if needed.
