A free Unreal Engine project that shows exactly how to drop MoCap Online animations into a shippable third-person shooter — Animation Blueprints, state machines, blend spaces, and multiplayer networking, all wired up.
This is a reference project, not a tech demo. Every Blueprint is production-style: the same patterns you'd build for a real game, using MoCap Online performances instead of placeholder stock animations. Open the project, trace the graphs, and copy the pieces you need into your own game.
Note: originally built in UE4. Runs in UE5 with the standard engine migration — no asset-level fixes required.
What's included
-
Complete
.uproject— drop into the Epic Launcher and open - Third-person character controller with locomotion, crouch, aim, fire, reload
- Animation Blueprint driving the character from MoCap Online clips via state machine + blend space
- Multiplayer networking — replicated movement, replicated weapon fire, server-authoritative damage
- Demo map with environment hazards, target dummies, and pickup volumes
- Blueprint source visible — nothing locked, nothing obfuscated
What you'll learn from reading the Blueprints
- How to structure an Animation Blueprint for a shooter character (state machine → blend space → montages)
- How to set up proper aim offsets and upper/lower body layering
- How to replicate movement and weapon fire correctly for multiplayer
- How to integrate MoCap Online packs into an existing animation graph
Engine compatibility
- Unreal Engine 4.27 — native (how the project was built)
- Unreal Engine 5.x — opens with standard engine upgrade prompt; no asset fixes needed
- Blueprints only — no C++ knowledge required
FAQ
Is this compatible with UE5? Yes. Open it in UE5 and accept the engine upgrade prompt. The project was authored in UE4.27 but the Blueprints, animations, and systems carry forward cleanly.
Do I need programming knowledge? No. Everything is wired in Blueprints. Reading node graphs is the only skill required.
Can I use this as a starting point for my own game? Yes — it's released under our standard commercial license, same as our paid packs. Use it as a template, copy individual systems, or study the patterns. No attribution required.
Are the animations in the demo included in other packs? The sampler animations overlap with our paid library. The value here is the integration — how the animations are wired into a working game loop — not the clips themselves.
Is this still being updated? The project is stable and works as documented. It's a reference build, not an actively-developed product. Engine upgrades (UE4 → UE5) are handled by Unreal's built-in migration.
