We support responsible AI use of professional motion capture data. The AI Usage Permit gives you a legitimate, licensed path to use MoCap Online animations in AI workflows.
What the AI Usage Permit Covers
- AI Development — Build AI models using MoCap Online animation data
- AI Deployment — Run AI systems that incorporate our data in production
- Model Training — Use our mocap data to train motion generation and retargeting models
- AI Retargeting & Synthesis — AI-powered animation retargeting between skeletons, motion synthesis
- Research — Academic and commercial research on motion capture + AI
Who Needs an AI Usage Permit?
If you're doing any of the following with MoCap Online animations, you need this permit:
- Training a motion generation or prediction AI model
- Using AI-powered tools to retarget animations to custom skeletons
- Building AI animation tools that process mocap input
- Research on motion synthesis using real mocap data
- Running AI pipelines that process, transform, or analyze our animation files
Important: The AI Usage Permit is in addition to your Standard or Commercial License — not a replacement. You still need the underlying license for the animations themselves.
What's NOT Covered
- ❌ Redistribution of raw animation data (even with AI modification)
- ❌ Sub-licensing AI rights to other developers
- ❌ Creating competing animation libraries from AI-transformed versions of our data
- ❌ Any use that violates the underlying Standard or Commercial License terms
Permit Terms
- Duration: Annual term, renewable
- Approval: Case-by-case review of your AI use case
- Indemnification: Full indemnification required — you are responsible for all AI application outcomes
- IP Ownership: Remains with MoCap Online / Motus Digital regardless of permit
- Compliance: Must follow our 7 AI usage guidelines (provided with permit)

- Which MoCap Online animation packs you're using (or plan to use)
- Expected scope — research, production, commercial deployment?
We review each application individually and typically respond within 2-3 business days.
Why We Offer an AI Permit
Most motion capture data providers either ignore AI or blanket-ban it. We believe AI is transforming animation, and we want to be part of that responsibly. The AI Usage Permit gives developers a legitimate, licensed path — while protecting the IP that makes our data valuable in the first place.
