Understanding MoCap Online's Licensing System
When you purchase motion capture animation packs from MoCap Online, you're not just buying files — you're gaining the rights to use professional-grade animations in your creative projects. Our licensing system is designed to be straightforward: buy once, use forever, no royalties. This guide explains exactly what you can and can't do with your purchases, so you can focus on building great projects instead of worrying about legal fine print.
MoCap Online offers a tiered licensing structure that scales with your needs. Most customers only ever need the Standard License, which is included with every purchase at no extra cost. For larger commercial operations or specialized use cases, we offer additional license types.
Standard License — Included with Every Purchase
The Standard License is automatically granted with every animation pack you buy from MoCap Online. There's nothing extra to sign or pay for — it's built into your purchase.
What the Standard License Allows
- Commercial use — Use animations in commercial games, films, simulations, architectural visualizations, VR/AR experiences, and any other creative project, including projects you sell or monetize.
- Perpetual rights — One purchase grants you lifetime use. There are no recurring fees, subscriptions, or expiration dates.
- Royalty-free — You owe nothing to MoCap Online when your project ships, regardless of how many copies you sell (within Standard License thresholds).
- Team sharing — You can share the animation files with members of your studio or project team who are working on the same project.
- Unlimited projects — Use your purchased animations across as many of your own projects as you like.
What the Standard License Does Not Allow
- Redistribution of raw files — You cannot resell, give away, or redistribute the original animation files (FBX, BIP, etc.) as standalone assets. They must be incorporated into a larger project.
- Sharing outside your team — Files should not be shared with individuals or studios who are not directly collaborating on your project.
- Use in AI/ML training — Using animations as training data for artificial intelligence or machine learning models requires a separate AI Usage Permit.

Commercial License — For Larger Projects
If your project exceeds certain revenue thresholds, you may need a Commercial License. This license is designed for studios and publishers whose products generate significant commercial revenue and need expanded usage rights beyond the Standard License.
Commercial Licenses are handled on a case-by-case basis. If you think your project might require one, or if you're unsure whether the Standard License covers your situation, reach out to us at MoCap@MotusDigital.com and we'll walk you through the options. There's no pressure and no obligation — we'd rather help you find the right license up front than have confusion later.
AI Usage Permit
With the rise of AI-generated content and machine learning in creative workflows, we've introduced a dedicated AI Usage Permit. This is a separate authorization required if you plan to use MoCap Online animations in any of the following ways:
- Training AI or machine learning models on the animation data
- Using animations as input for AI-driven content generation
- Incorporating animation data into datasets used for neural network training
The AI Usage Permit exists to ensure our motion capture data — captured by real performers in professional studios — is used responsibly and ethically. If you're working on an AI-related project, review the permit details or contact us to discuss your specific use case.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use these animations in a commercial game?
Yes. The Standard License, included free with every purchase, covers commercial use in games, films, simulations, and other creative projects. You do not need to buy an additional license for this.
Can I share the files with my team?
Yes. You can share animation files with members of your studio or project team who are working on the same project. Just don't distribute them outside your team or make them publicly available.
Do I need to credit MoCap Online?
No. Attribution is not required under any of our licenses. While we always appreciate a shout-out, there is no obligation to credit MoCap Online in your finished project.
What if my game or project generates significant revenue?
If your project exceeds the revenue thresholds defined in the Standard License, you should contact us about a Commercial License. Email MoCap@MotusDigital.com and we'll work with you to find the right fit — it's a straightforward process.
Can I use the animations in multiple projects?
Yes. Your purchase covers use across all of your own projects. There's no per-project limit.

Staying Current with Animation Licensing
Digital asset licensing continues to evolve as the game development and 3D production industries grow. At MoCap Online, we regularly review our licensing terms to ensure they reflect current industry practices while remaining clear and straightforward for our customers. Our goal is to make licensing simple: buy a pack, use it in your projects, ship your game or film.
If you have questions about whether a specific use case falls within our licensing terms, our team is always available to help. Common questions we receive involve using our animations in multiple projects (yes, under our standard license), modifying animations for custom characters (yes, retargeting and editing is expected), and using animations in free-to-play games (yes, our license covers both premium and free titles). For detailed licensing information, visit our licensing page or contact us directly.
License Comparison
Our Standard License covers most commercial use cases including game development, film, VR, and interactive media. The Commercial License extends these rights for enterprise deployments and projects requiring additional permissions. Both licenses grant perpetual usage rights with no recurring fees or royalties.
